Cyzicus was an ancient Greek town of Mysia on the coast of the Sea of Marmara, near present-day Erdek in Balikesir. It stood on the shoreward side of the present Kapidag Peninsula, a tombolo said to have originally been an island in the Sea of Marmara, later connected to the mainland by artificial means or an earthquake.
