Editor's Note
The church is in Hafizhuseyinbey village, part of the Gonen district. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century but, before it could be fully opened for service, fell out of use with the population exchange. The village, a Pomak settlement founded at the foot of the hills 18 km from Gonen, is home to the descendants of those who came in the 1924 population exchange under the Treaty of Lausanne from the village of Kurtlu (Lykostomos) near Kavala. The village's old name was Elbizlik (said to mean "mouth of the water" in Greek).
