In the limestone ancient quarry at ground level south of Tekke Creek, within the village of Mecidiye in the Lapseki district of Canakkale province, the stone-cutting traces of ancient technology can be seen. The site can be said to date back at least to the Roman period. The cutting marks here show that the blocks were extracted to a consistent standard.
