Editor's Note
It was built in 1934 in memory of the 5,000 French soldiers who died fighting alongside the Turks in the Turkish-Russian war known as the Crimean War, which lasted three years from 1854 to 1856. Its garden holds terraced marble graves. These generally belong to French generals and senior officers, or to those of other nations who took part in the war alongside them. There is a small building at the lower end of the cemetery.
