Mecidiye Kalesi, Edirne

Editor's Note

The castle stands beside a sandy beach near Mecidiye village on the shore of the Gulf of Saros, bounded on either side by hills. A stream coming from the north flows into the sea past the hill on the western edge of the beach. The castle sits atop the hill to the east. The hill is bounded naturally by a small valley to the west, a narrow gully (perhaps a moat) to the east, and the sea to the south. Toward the north, the ground both inside and outside the castle slopes upward. The castle has preserved traces of its walls sufficient to show its general extent.
