The mansion's owner, Necip Paşa, brigadier of artillery of the Bahr-i Sefid (Mediterranean) Strait, also had the Necip Paşa Mosque built. Although the title deeds contain no detailed information about the building, it remained in the ownership of Madame Katy of the English Calvert family until 1976 and, after her death, was transferred to the Çanakkale Municipality. Now belonging to the Ministry of Culture, the building was allocated in 1988 to the Directorate of the State Fine Arts Gallery and underwent restoration in 1995 and 2010.
