Editor's Note
Abydos was an ancient city in Mysia, located at the Nara Burnu promontory on the Asian coast of the Hellespont, opposite the ancient city of Sestos and near present-day Çanakkale. Founded around 670 BC at the narrowest point of the straits, it was one of the main crossing points between Europe and Asia until it was replaced by the Lampsacus-Kallipolis crossing in the 13th century and abandoned in the early 14th century.
