Measuring 74 by 9 meters, the SS Milo was built in 1865 as a steam passenger ship. With the outbreak of the First World War, the ship entered the service of the British Admiralty and was used during the war to carry supplies to the units stationed at Anzac Cove in the Arıburnu area. On 26 October 1915, to protect the ships that put in at this exposed location, it was filled with concrete and fixed in place; a generator was installed inside it and searchlights were used to light up the shore.
