Editor's Note
It is located in the village of Kervansaray, 15 km from the central settlement of Iğdır province. It is one of the last works built by the Anatolian Seljuk state in the late 13th century, and is said to have been built by Şerafettin Ejder, the emir of Sürmari. The caravanserai, oriented east–west, has a rectangular plan and is reinforced on the outside with towers. In plan it consists of a three-aisled hall and, at the rear, a covered hall with three naves. The entrance portal is pointed-arched and, with its rich decoration, appears as the only architectural element enlivening the otherwise monotonous façade.
