Editor's Note
The Surp Hıreşdagabed Monastery (Taşdibi Church) lies outside an old quarter of Kemah (Gamakh/Kemakh), at the foot of a steep cliff overlooking the right bank of the Western Euphrates, on the river's left bank. Carved into the steep rocks and thought to have been founded before the 11th century, the monastery is believed to have been built in the early days of Christianity by Saint Thekla, a disciple of Saint Paul of Tarsus, and later to have passed into Armenian hands.
