Editor's Note
An ancient city located at present-day Sadak village in the Kelkit District of Gümüşhane Province. According to ancient geographers, Satala lay in a mountain-ringed valley a little north of the Euphrates, where the road from Trapezus to Samosata crossed the boundary of the Roman Empire. It was a bishopric and was later linked to Nicopolis by two highways.
