Editor's Note
The Mama Hatun Complex, consisting of a tomb-tower, caravanserai, bath, and mosque, was built in Tercan (formerly called Mamahatun) on the Erzurum-Erzincan caravan road by Mama Hatun, daughter of İzzeddin Saltuk II, who came to the head of the Saltukid Beylik that ruled in and around Erzurum in 587 (1191). The Mama Hatun Caravanserai was built in the 13th century in the Tercan district of Erzincan and lies 30 metres east of the Mama Hatun Tomb. Built of cut limestone, the structure has lost its originality due to repairs; it stands out for its courtyard ringed with conical-roofed towers, its stables, and its cells.
