The monument stands in the Refahiye district, beside the Erzincan-Sivas highway, next to the Bahattin Pasha Bridge, which was originally wooden but was later rebuilt in reinforced concrete. It was erected in 1916 by Corps Commander Yusuf İzzet Pasha in honour of Bahattin Pasha, commander of the 30th Division, who was killed on 31 August 1916 in the Battle of Karadağ against the Russians. The monument is a column of two parts, 1.75 m tall. One face is inscribed: "The Bridge of the Honoured Martyr Bahattin Pasha, Commander of the Thirtieth Division, was built by the Engineer Battalion of the First Caucasus Corps."
