Editor's Note
The mosque in the Cumhuriyet neighbourhood has no inscription. However, according to the inscriptions on its candlesticks, the mosque was commissioned in 1749 (AH 1163) by the Chief Doorkeeper Çapanoğlu Ahmet Paşa. The prayer hall has three naves running perpendicular to the south. The naves are separated from one another by two rows of four wooden posts of square section. The mihrab is in the form of a polygonal-bodied niche shifted eastward from the south-north axis. The minbar is of plain wood. To the north of the prayer hall is a gallery whose front projects like a balcony. The interior is lit by eight windows that widen from outside to inside, two on each wall (except the north façade).
