The aim of the Hattusa wall reconstruction project was to bring to life, in the eyes of visitors, the grandeur of the Hittite capital and to understand ancient construction techniques through the method of experimental archaeology. The reconstruction was carried out in the Lower City, on the northwestern edge of the Great Temple, in an area easily visible to visitors. Only a 65-metre section of the wall system, which has a total length of 6.5 kilometres, was built. This section consisted of three city walls 7-8 metres high and two defensive towers 12-13 metres high. The project was completed over about three years, between 2003 and 2005.
