Isa Celebi first settled in the vicinity of Balikesir (Karesi). After Timur's army seized and sacked the city, he began to fight his brother Musa Celebi, who was ruling in Bursa as emir under a warrant from Timur. Although Musa Celebi prevailed in the earlier clashes, Isa Celebi later won a battle near Balikesir, and Musa Celebi fled to Germiyan (Kutahya).
