Editor's Note
The Ilyaslar Cemetery, which lay on the land now occupied by Ataturk Park, was one of Balikesir's oldest urban cemeteries. With the completion of Ataturk Park between 1935 and 1942, the cemetery was removed. The grave of Seyh Semseddin Efendi, today standing in the middle of the road at the junction of Cengiz Topel Avenue and Ataturk Avenue beside the park, lay within the bounds of this cemetery.
