The grave of Sinan Efendi, known to have been a tutor to Sultan Bayezid II, is referred to as the Tomb of Kiz Dedesi (the Girl's Grandfather). In the 1930s, a tomb in Balikesir was being used as a cemetery for the poor and unidentified. There was no name or marking on its door. One day, an illiterate visitor, noticing there was no name on the tomb's door, placed a randomly chosen gravestone on top of the tomb. That gravestone belonged to a woman, and in later years the tomb came to be known as the Tomb of Kiz Dedesi.
