Editor's Note
It is understood from a dated document that the place of worship in the Karesi neighbourhood, thought to have been built in the mid-14th century by Okçu Karakadı, was first a small mosque (mescit) and was later converted into a Friday mosque in 1735, when a man named Ali Efendi had a pulpit (minber) installed. After this, a Quran reciter of the same name was appointed as preacher there. The date of 1739 given as the construction date in the inscription at the courtyard entrance probably belongs to a repair carried out around those years.
