Editor's Note
There are differing opinions about who commissioned the fountain known as Fatıpınar, on Fatıpınar Street in the Dinkçiler neighbourhood. It may be taken to have been built as the joint charitable work of five people named in its inscription — Fatıma, Muhammed Vefa, Mahmut, Mustafa and İsmail Zeki — who were probably relatives. According to the inscription, this impressive structure, built in AH 1153 / AD 1741, was restored by the directorate of pious foundations in 1924. The fountain was built as a tall structure of cut stone, and its water, which comes from the Özle spring at the foot of the Karagedik slope, is still drunk today.
