Editor's Note
The original construction date of the mosque built by a man named Emin Ağa in the Karesi neighbourhood is unknown. However, the numerical (abjad) value of the letters in the last line of the repair inscription above its door adds up to 1314, that is, the date of the second construction. Damaged in the earthquake disaster of 1897, the building was repaired through the encouragement of the district governor Ömer Ali Bey and the material and moral support of the notable Kuzu Ali Ağa. The mosque repaired by Kuzu Ali Ağa, who thus earned the title of second founder, is also called the Hoca Kuyusu Mosque.
