Editor's Note
It lies about 10 km southwest of Çanakkale province, in Şehitlik Village within the İntepe sub-district. Considering the various electrum and silver coins bearing the city's distinctive rooster motif - thought, though not certainly, to have circulated in the 7th-6th centuries BC - together with the ceramic finds recovered in surface surveys, it appears the site was inhabited at least from the time the Mytileneans settled along the Troad coast. Little is known about the city. It was a free city paying about one talent in tribute to the Athenian League. Most of the coins date to the 4th century BC [Göktürk 1995:76]. J.M.
