Editor's Note
Its plan type reveals that it was in fact built as a bathhouse. During its time as a bathhouse, it had a domed disrobing room, a barrel-vaulted tepidarium, and a hot room consisting of a central dome flanked by three barrel-vaulted iwans and cells in two corners. When the bathhouse was converted into a mosque, the disrobing room became the prayer hall and the hot room became the portico; the tepidarium was used as a space between the two areas. Ishak Fakih lived between 1349 and 1440. The brick-coursed rough-hewn ashlar masonry of its walls suggests the bathhouse dates from the late 13th or early 14th century.
