Located within the urban conservation area of the Odunpazari district of Eskisehir province, the Atlihan Handicrafts Bazaar was built in the 1850s by Takattin Bey to house the market traders, travelers, and villagers who came from surrounding villages, towns, and cities, providing lodging for both them and their animals. Because Atlihan was a place to rest and stay overnight, where animals were tended, and which also had a tea hearth, it became a gathering place for the local people and a venue where all the social, political, and economic affairs of the day took shape. Over time it came to be known by various names, such as the Han, the Tavafci Han, and the Odunpazari Han.
