The Kılıçoğlu earthenware factory was Turkey's first roof-tile factory. Located in the Hoşnudiye neighborhood of Eskişehir, it was established on Atatürk's instructions and operated from 1927 to 2007. Founded in response to the tile shortage of the early Republic, when tiles had to be imported from Marseille, its products were distributed across the country by rail and used on the roofs of many important buildings.
