A doctoral study was prepared at Bilecik Seyh Edebali University by Mehmet Can Cetin under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Refik Arikan. Evaluating Ottoman chronicles, archival documents and field research together, Cetin reached an important conclusion about the birthplace of Osman Gazi, founder of the Ottoman State. According to the research, Osman Gazi was born in 1258 in a village in the Sogut district recorded in Ottoman registers as "Karye-i Goynucek."
