Kirmasti Rüşdiye Mektebi

Editor's Note

The Kirmasti Rüşdiye School opened in 1893 as the Kirmasti Rüşdiye School (middle school). The building had been constructed in 1889 by District Governor Haydar Bey as a Government House in the Züferbey neighbourhood, and in 1893, following the decision to open a rüşdiye in Kirmasti, it was allocated to the school. The two-storey wooden building was adapted for use as a five-classroom school. The decision to open a rüşdiye in Kirmasti was made in line with the policy of spreading the education organisation across the country and opening new schools during the reign of Abdülhamid II.
