In 1974, during construction of the Bursa–İzmir highway, it was discovered that Miletopolis was being damaged, and roadwork was halted; when work resumed in 1975, a 130 × 70 metre section of the Miletopolis mound was removed. During these works, the remains of a temple from the reign of the Roman emperor Hadrian were found. Among the fragments, the architraves, pediments, fluted columns, column capitals, mask reliefs, and pieces decorated with egg-and-dart and acanthus-leaf motifs are of particular interest. A 1.13-metre-tall bronze statue of Apollo was also found at the same spot.
