The ancient city of Hadrianoi was founded on the road leading from the center of Orhaneli to Kusumlar village, on the right side of the road and 2-3 km from the district center. Established as a hunting ground by the Roman emperor Hadrian (AD 117-138) in AD 123 or 131, the city was administered as a Byzantine governorship (tekfurluk) until it was conquered by Orhan Gazi in 1325. Beginning beneath the Orhaneli cemetery and along the Kusumlar road, settlement areas, a palace, a church, gymnasium (school) ruins and graves have come to light.
