Editor's Note
It is located at the Asartepe locality within the boundaries of Cirpilar village in the Yenice district of Canakkale province. In places the castle walls can still be traced across the site. The ruined state of the walls makes it impossible to determine the castle's period with certainty, but in the late 1800s Wiegand identified it as a Byzantine-era fortress. Slag is found in dense quantities on top of and along the slopes of the hill where the castle stands, and there are areas to the northeast that may have been used as kilns.
