The tomb is believed to belong to Seyyid Omer Halil, thought to have been the water-carrier (saka) of the Prophet Muhammad. Seyyid Omer Halil is said to have come to the region during the reign of Caliph Osman, together with the Islamic armies and with Abdurrahman Gazi, who is buried in Erzurum. It is not known for certain by whom or when the mosque and tomb were built.
