The district of Kemaliye stands out for its distinctive urban fabric, architecture, and unique houses, which historically lay along the Silk and Caravan routes. Settled into the topography with a philosophy that treats nature as the fundamental element of building, the town is laid out on three main terraces rising up from the Euphrates River. The Euphrates shaped the layout of the urban space and the architecture; the settlement units were formed and designed in response to this influence.
