The Monastery of Surp Asdvadzadzin is almost certainly the monastery in the Khortziank region referred to as a 'place of seclusion' in a text dated 1364. Like all the other monasteries in the region, which was an archbishopric in the 15th and 16th centuries, it long carried out its activities under the authority of the Surp Garabed Monastery in Muş.
