Editor's Note
This is the war cemetery where seven of our soldiers were buried, having been killed when artillery fire from a Greek warship anchored in the Gulf of Ayvalık struck the headquarters of the 172nd Regiment, commanded by Ali Çetinkaya, on 16 July 1919. The cemetery, located at Karaağaç in Gömeç, was inaugurated on 23 September 1936 by Ali Çetinkaya, then serving as Minister of Public Works. Source: şehitliklerimiz.com
