According to oral tradition, there was a Byzantine monastery here that survived until the early 19th century but, like its entire immediate surroundings, was destroyed in the fire of 3 June 1821. A notable structural ruin has been identified on a coastal rock. Measuring roughly 6.50 by 10.00 metres and oriented east-west, the building was constructed in masonry technique using rough-hewn stone, brick fragments and lime mortar.
