Editor's Note
This is a historic complex of buildings at Gümüşlü Point in Keremköy, comprising an olive oil and pomace factory together with soap works. The first factory at Gümüşlü was founded in the 18th century by the entrepreneur Angel on the recommendation of the Greek steward Kosta. With the Republic, the region's largest olive, olive oil, soap and pomace facility was established here, and the first registered hydraulic-press olive oil factory of the Ministry of Industry was set up at Gömeç. By 1954 it had reached a pressing capacity of 60 tonnes a day. The facility also burned the pomace it produced to generate its own energy.
