Ahmet Evran, of Salonica origin and said to have been a relative of Ataturk, settled in Edremit when his son was just three years old. As his trade in Salonica had been yoghurt-making, he carried on the same work here. His son, Saban Evran, in addition to the family trade, opened a shop in 1924 where he made and sold meatballs (kofte) alongside their own yoghurt and cheese. He named the restaurant "Omur" (meaning "long life") as a wish for longevity. Indeed, although the family name is Evran, in Edremit today they are still known by the name "Omurler." Over time, grilled dishes and pot meals were added to the menu.
