The caves are located at the spot known as Inbogazi, where the Havran River (the ancient Euenos) emerges onto the Havran plain. Before spilling onto the plain, the Havran River eroded the limestone ground and carved out a gorge. At the entrance to this gorge, on the southern slopes of the 381-metre Kocacal Hill, there are four main cave mouths. These are named Devadami, Karanlik, Aydinlik and Andik. Although there are seven cave mouths in all, only four of them could be entered. A dam has now been built for irrigation purposes at the entrance to the caves.
