Editor's Note
It was built in 1875 by Efrayim Bengiat in memory of his father İshak Bengiat. There is an inscription at its entrance which reads: "With the help of God... The stone the builders scorned became the cornerstone. In this construction Efrayim Bengiat Efendi - may God protect him - has allocated 37 lira for the repose in Paradise of the soul of his father - may his wisdom be an everlasting blessing - Yitshak Bengiat, on condition that on the eve of the 14th of Kislev the rabbis - may God protect them - kindly read for his soul, and that on the eve of the Day of Atonement (Kippur) a memorial prayer be read in the Yabets Synagogue. 5645 (1875), a year of blessing and goodness!..."
