Editor's Note
According to its registration record, it was built in 1427 by Bedrettin Mahmutoğlu Hibetullah Çelebi together with the Taş Han. According to Osman Bayatlı, the name Küplü Hamam ("Jar Bath") came from a Hellenistic marble jar that stood over the pool in the changing room until 1837; the jar is today in the Louvre Museum. As the story goes, Hibetullah Çelebi found three marble jars full of gold in his garden while ploughing and sent them to Sultan Murad II. The sultan granted him a large fief in this region, took the gold into the treasury, and left him one of the marble jars.
