The settlement known as Nize or Nirze Village, called by that name until 1960, is today a neighbourhood of the town of Gesi in the Melikgazi district of Kayseri province, under the name Güzelköy. Its Byzantine-era name was Nyssa, and it is known as the centre where Saint Gregory of Nyssa (c. 335-395), one of the founding fathers of Greek Orthodox Christian doctrine, served as bishop for seventeen years. The church and tomb dedicated to Saint Gregory, which stood in the village until the 1920s, are known to have been destroyed during that period.
