Editor's Note
The Vart Basrig Children's School was built in 1847 by the children of Vart Badrigyan Gülbenk. The school stood on Fırın Street in Talas. Only the school's doorway, garden walls, and inscription survive today. Mari Gerekmezyan was educated at this school. The inscription reads: The worthy children of Vart Badrigyan Gülbenk, four of whom chose the right path: Avadik the elder, Gülabi the younger, Kalust, Kerovpel, and their two sisters Marinos and Sırpuhi. In memory of their elder brother Hovhannes, they built this fine school with their honest earnings and gave it as a gift to our nation.
