Editor's Note
Built in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, the Kethüdazade Hacı Ahmet Efendi Atasoylar Mansion is one of the finest examples of traditional Ottoman domestic architecture. Commissioned by Osman Efendi, the building stands out for its cut-stone workmanship and the balanced use of wooden elements. In its layout, the rooms arranged around a spacious hayat (courtyard) and the main reception room (başoda) suited to receiving guests come to the fore. On the facades, the symmetrical arrangement of windows, the stone-jambed doors, and the plain yet elegant stone ornament seen here and there give the mansion its character.
