Editor's Note
The Esma Hatun Tomb was built entirely of cut stone in the 19th-century Western architectural style. The octagonal-plan tomb is covered by a dome, with a finial set atop the dome's drum. The facades of the tomb are linked to one another by round arches running above projecting white marble cornices. The points where these arches meet the cornices divide the exterior facade in two with a thin band, and round windows are opened above them. In the lower part there are rectangular-jambed, latticed windows. Esma Hanım was the mother of Ali Saib Pasha.
