Editor's Note
One of the wives of the Anatolian Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I was Melike Adile (Adiliye) Hatun, who came from the Ayyubid dynasty. Her real name was Melike Adiliye, and in the sources she is also referred to as Gaziye Hatun. She was the daughter of the Ayyubid sultan Melik Adil and the niece of the famous commander Saladin. This marriage was the result of a political alliance formed to protect the southeastern front of Anatolia against the approaching Mongol threat. Melike Adile's marriage to Alaeddin Keykubad took place in 1227, and the wedding celebrations went on for days in cities stretching from Malatya all the way to Alanya.
