Editor's Note
The mosque, built in 1591 by Aziz Mahmud Hüdâyî and bearing his name, came to be called the New Mosque instead of the Aziz Mahmud Hüdâyî Mosque because it was rebuilt in 1893. It was constructed in a wooden style with a large central dome surrounded by half-domes. Its minaret was built in 1894. There are two bands beneath the balcony. It appears that during construction the height at the first band was deemed insufficient and was raised. Aziz Mahmud Hüdâyî, founder of the Celvetiyye order, was both a sheikh and a poet.
