Editor's Note
It lies at the Kaleüstü Hill site between the boundaries of Söğütlü and İlyasfakı villages in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale province. The fortress on the hilltop, about 50 m in diameter, was built using the dry-stone technique. Most of its walls have collapsed. A circular-plan structure within the fortress was destroyed by heavy machinery. Fragments of roof tiles are found in places inside and around the fortress. The ancient city of Lamponeia lies 3 km to the east, and the ancient city of Assos 7.3 km to the south. The fortress, thought to have been built as a watchtower, dates to the Archaic Period (BC).
