Editor's Note
It lies within the boundaries of Babakale village in the Ayvacik district of Canakkale province. In his travel notes, the Polish traveler Edward Raczynski, who came to the region in 1814, recorded that there were two windmills on the slopes of the hill against which Babakale rests, virtually watching over the harbor from above. Moreover, it is understood that this surviving ruined structure is one of the three windmills seen in a photograph taken from a ship during the Battle of Canakkale in 1915. The mill is a cylindrical-bodied structure built of local andesite stone with mud mortar.
