Editor's Note
This is the point where Anatolia's first (Alsancak–Aydın) and second (Basmane–Kasaba) railway lines cross at right angles. For railway enthusiasts it is significant as the only such crossing in Turkey and one of only a handful in the world. "Tekatu" means "intersection" in Arabic. Because of the sounds the trains make as they pass over this point, locals also call it "takatuka." The neighborhood where this crossing lies is known today as "Hilal."
