Editor's Note
One of the carriages of the 'White Train' - the nine-carriage train used by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, on his journeys around the country - is on display at İzmir's Alsancak Station. The carriage's saloon contains an ebony-veneered table, a large armchair upholstered in épinglé and smaller chairs, along with a radio, two electrical sockets, three call bells and a telephone. In the bedroom section, which holds a wide bed, the ceiling is of ebony, while the wardrobe is veneered in oak and ebony. At one end of the sleeping saloon is a balcony-like entrance hall.
